Sand Castle Nags Head
cyanotype and ink by Sarah Witte
Nature ACEOsThis cyanotype is made using an old alternative photographic process. Using iron salts to coat the paper, the negative is exposed to UV light to produce the Prussian blue. This image was taken in 1996. I converted the image into a negative by making it black and white, and then inverting the colors. Can you see the big waves about to demolish the sand castle? A beach lesson for my son. The process image shows some of the negatives with their positives, just out of the developer (water, in the bathtub!) Over the next 24 hours, the deep, rich blues will develop.
