Surf Nags Head

This is a cyanotype, an old alternative photographic process that uses iron salts and UV light to make the deep Prussian blue the process is known for. This image was taken in 1996, during the big winter swells. The process image shows some of the negatives with their positives, just out of the developer (I use the bathtub). Over the next 24 hours, they'll dry and become a rich, deep blue.
